The Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is delighted to host the first solo exhibition by NAGASHIMA Yurie (1973- ) to be held in a Japanese public museum. In 1993, while she still attended Musashino Art University, she won the PARCO Prize at the URBANART #2 competition, receiving widespread acclaim. In 2001 she won the 26th Kimura Ihee Award for her photo-book, "PASTIME PARADISE". In more recent years, she received the 26th Kodansha Essay Award in 2010 for her book, "Senaka no Kioku", demonstrating the wide range of her creative activities.

This exhibition will feature works ranging from her famous, early self-portrait series, the series on plants that she created while staying in Switzerland in 2007, to her latest work in which she focuses on women's life courses.

NAGASHIMA has continued to question the things she feels uncomfortable such as the ‘family’ or women’s position in society, through her work. Her diversity of expression continues to expand and in this exhibition, we will look at her current work as well as looking back over the course of her career.
